How might we learn from COVID-19 to reimagine our future of learning and keeping healthy at home

Design Challenge

#3: How might we learn from COVID-19 to reimagine our future for life, work, learning and play?

Project Description

A SAAS fitness platform centered around live streamings and focused on helping broadcasters monetize their followings. Users will have to pay monthly subscription fees to access our App to watch fitness trainers live stream workouts and it provides on demand workouts recorded by fitness trainers. Imagine Twitch.tv and netflix but for Fitness.

Criteria #1: Value

We understand that the biggest issue faced by our niche audience is the inconvenience they face in the current way of sustaining fitness. Huge group meetings, awkwardness and inconvenient timings may cause consumers to avoid and skip their weekly dose of physical activity. Organizations would also be able to focus on efforts in ensuring employee fitness level. Caring for employee’s health would be seen highly valuable in both face value and have a good corporate social responsibility. We will also add value to consumers by improving their lives by keeping them fit in their own time.

Criteria #2: Inspiration

Due to Covid-19 and social distancing, trainers and their clients are stuck at home. To help people stay fit, many trainers are streaming virtual fitness sessions via Zoom and Instagram Live. These fitness trainers would advertise their routines on instagram and call out to users to join their virtual training classes on zoom. In particular, we were looking at @tanyadominique and @amandajleefit which started a joint project called @projectalterego. We serve to provide access to proper guidance when it comes to education in fitness, health and nutrition. Therefore by building an app, we hope to help these broadcasters monetise their followings.

Criteria #3: Impact

By initiating this project, we hope that users will have a more empowered version of themselves physically, mentally and spiritually, thereby becoming the empowered “perfect alternate self” . We understand what it’s like to not be able to afford simple coaching, and feeling lost when there’s so much info on the internet that you don’t know what’s believable. Hence, We started this as we felt no one should be denied access to proper guidance when it comes to education in fitness, health and nutrition. By doing so, we hope that users will feel as close to the in-person workout experience as possible. Hence, they will feel that they are “physically” present with them.

Criteria #4: Timeliness

We will be developing the prototype inclusive of the UI/UX, frontend and backend development concurrently in the first 3 months. By the 4th month, we aim to put our App on testflight for beta testing and updates. It will be held along with soft launch to a few companies and will be worked upon once the development is completed. Upon finalisation by the 5th month, the application will be launched alongside a strong media release and corresponding growth hacking strategies. While the development is on-going, we will be partnering with key partners such as fitness trainers and potential clients.

Criteria #5: Systems Thinking

With existing health initiatives implemented by the Government agencies, we would work well in sync with Health Promotion Boards and initiatives encouraging Singaporeans to take up a healthy lifestyle. Not only will we be able to encourage the community to get into a healthier lifestyle together but also form a solidarity bond in walking towards a much healthier future. To help people stay fit, many trainers are streaming virtual fitness sessions via Zoom and Instagram Live. These fitness trainers would advertise their routines on instagram and call out to users to join their virtual training classes on Zoom.
