Design Challenge
#1: How might we keep our communities in Singapore safe and healthy during the global COVID-19 pandemic?
Project Description
To raise more awareness regarding COVID-19, while protecting them with social distancing and prevention of public gathering. “The idea” aims to better utilize 2d/3d graphics to create a most purposeful system to prevent people from social gathering.
Criteria #1: Value
To prevent public social gathering, “the idea” is to better educate the public about the situation and awareness, to create a positive impact on their own personal safety. “Red cross signs” and red corden strips are the current solutions used for the current COVID-19 safety measures. However it creates an unsightly scene as it may be too messy and does not educate the public beyond its intended purpose. Therefore, the use of 2d and 3d graphics/elements implemented in public seatings, public transports and queueing areas aims to create a more positive impact.
Criteria #2: Inspiration
In the current situation, there are people who still take the virus very lightly or elderly that do not have access to news. Hence, the 2d/3d graphics could at least give information about COVID-19 or information on practicing good hygiene. At the same time preventing public gatherings under places like HDB and places where people hangout.
Criteria #3: Impact
With the new proposed system, it aims to raise awareness, better educate people on personal wellbeing, avoiding public gatherings at the same time not being an unsightly mess. The 2d and 3d graphics would grasp the public’s attention, notifying them about the blockage and inform them about the Covid-19 safety measures, creating a more systematic way of preventing public hangouts.
Criteria #4: Timeliness
Upon approval > Design development(4 weeks) > Prototype(4 weeks) — Product Test(4 weeks) > Mass production(6 weeks) > Distribution (12 weeks)
Criteria #5: Systems Thinking
The idea aims to achieve zero public gatherings, giving it a systematic way of implementation. With its existence when applied, 2d/3d graphics and visuals can serve as another vessel and channel to better communicate and educate the public about preventing social gatherings and various necessary information or messages through various stakeholders like the Health Promotion Board or Covi-19 committee to better address the current pandemic.
