Design Challenge
#1: How might we keep our communities in Singapore safe and healthy during the global COVID-19 pandemic?
Project Description
A standalone sanitizer dispenser with temperature taking function, stationed outside shopping malls.
Criteria #1: Value
Encouraging people to be more self-aware of their personal wellbeing and hygiene. The standalone sanitizer dispenser that is stationed outside malls is designed and aimed to achieve zero physical contact sanitizing and temperature taking. Encouraging people whose temperatures are above 37.5 to avoid entering malls, avoiding the crowd, and possibly spreading the virus. This would mean that lesser manpower would be required to maintain such order. With the proposed idea, we aim to reduce unnecessary manpower and physical contact between people.
Criteria #2: Inspiration
With the current situation going on, the government has lacked manpower as they needed more people to be around to take the temperature for the public. This could be a design opportunity where SterileSG could be found at the entrances of malls, which could help ease the number of manpower needed. With this device, it could also lead to a more efficient distribution of manpower and at the same time, create a form of social awareness to encourage the public to be more socially responsible.
“Go home, if unwell”
Criteria #3: Impact
Implementing this device, it will gradually cultivate social responsible behavior by sanitizing themselves before entering the mall. The device will also allow them to constantly check their temperature in public, allowing them to keep track of their personal wellbeing at all times.
Criteria #4: Timeliness
The proposed idea has the potential to be launched with the assistance of tech related industry.
Criteria #5: Systems Thinking
As mentioned the invention fit a missing piece in the healthcare system and
The automated temperature taking and hand sanitizer device aim to increase the efficiency of these safety procedures. It provides the public with the awareness of their own social wellbeing and at the same time promoting self-hygiene in public areas. Working together with various stakeholders such as the Health Promotion Board, Capitaland, and Mapletree, etc.
